Ping Pong Room Size

Ping Pong Room Size

The amount of room you have around your table tennis table will greatly influence how your game is played. The less obstacles and more room you have the better - but with a bit of planning you can also make it work in smaller spaces. Below is a basic guide for the minimum amount of space needed for a fun game of ping pong on a standard size table.

What is the standard size of a ping pong table?

Ping pong table dimensions: 9 feet long, 5 feet wide, 2.5 feet tall.

The standard size of a ping pong table measures 9' long by 5' wide, so your ping pong room needs to be at least this size. If you're just playing solo with one side of the table folded up, the length of the table is only around 5'.

A chart showing various ping pong rooms based on level of play. Smallest room is 19 feet by 11 feet. Largest room is 46 feet by 23 feet.

How much room is needed for a ping pong table?

Since a ping pong table size is 9' long by 5' wide, we recommend a minimum of 5' behind each end of the table and 3' to each side. This would require your ping pong room to be 19' long by 11' wide. If you don't mind leaning on furniture or hitting the occasional wall, you may be able to get away with a smaller playing area. Also consider your ping pong room's ceiling height. Low ceilings and hanging light fixtures may get in the way of flying balls. We recommend a ceiling height of 10' for your ping pong room.

If you have an outside area that is fairly level, consider an outdoor ping pong table. This will give you more playing room and makes for great fun when weather permits.

Another way to save space is to purchase a table that folds up for storage. All Tiger Ping Pong tables come with an Easy-Lock handle that makes them easy to fold and roll into storage for maximum space saving.
